The Hillsborough County Probate Court deals with matters of probate and the administration of estates. In essence, when someone dies in Hillsborough County, this court will be in charge of ensuring that their will is carried out and their estate is divided according to their wishes. If there was no will or there are questions about the estate, the probate court will help settle those matters.

About the Court

The Hillsborough County Probate Court is the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court. It is presided over by Chief Judge Ronald Ficarrotta, who has served in that capacity since 1999. The court administrator is Gina Justice, and the general magistrates over Probate, Guardianship, and Trust are Sean Cadigan and Vicki Reeves.

The court has several programs available to county citizens. The Certified Process Servers program helps to identify people who may be qualified to serve legal documents like subpoenas to citizens involved in legal cases. The Mental Health Case Management Programs work to ensure that those who need special help navigating the court system get it.

There are also additional Unified Family Programs and Specialty Courts within the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court. The Children’s Justice Center manages the Monitored Exchange/Supervised Visitation program and the Children’s Advocacy Center. There are also Problem Solving Courts, an Elder Justice Center, Family Support Services, and much more available through the court.

Hillsborough County is the most populous county in Florida other than the Miami metropolitan area. The county is part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tampa is the largest city within this area.
