Case Details
A list linked to Jeffrey Epstein is being released, originating from a 2015 lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell. This lawsuit, settled in 2017, involved Giuffre’s accusations of sexual abuse by Epstein and others, facilitated by Maxwell. The unsealed documents are expected to reveal over 150 names, including those accused of misconduct, associates, alleged victims, and witnesses. Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, faced charges related to sex trafficking. Maxwell was later sentenced for her role in these crimes.
According to Attorney David Di Pietro,
When a civil lawsuit was pending related to Epstein. There was a petition or motion filed to release these names after the new year. It looks like John/Jane Doe 107 is worried about physical harm so they wrote a letter to the court asking for the case to remain sealed pending responses to be filed. We are now looking for an additional delay for the names to be released.
In order for the names to remain confidential there has to be statutes for it. There is no legal basis to keep these names anonymous indefinitely. There’s going to be a lot of reporters digging and trying to find information so there may be more criminal activity revealed to the public.
If you’re named in a court record, you can’t sue for defamation due to “litigation privilege.”
Don’t hold your breath about the names being released at the end of the month. It may take a long time to release these names due to the lengthy litigation and appeals process.
